Session 16 Daniel 11 continued, Abomination of Desolation & Armageddon sequence

The Prophecy Project:
Session 16
WELCOME… To session number Sixteen of the prophecy project. Last session I went through Isaiah Chapter 31 and part of Daniel 11. We found that Asshur the Assyrian is killed by a man that is with him in his strong hold, somewhere near Jerusalem. This assassin is not a soldier or a mean man, but was probably an advisor of some type, but Asshur did not see it coming.
We also covered the first portion Daniel chapter 11. Where we learned that there will be four kings in Persia, the 4th king (or last) attacks into and fights with Egypt and defeats them, he also moves into the Holy Land and is afflicted by the ships of Chittim. These events, timing and sequence are the same as Asshur’s, as found in numbers 24. I explained how Asshur and 4th Persian king are the same man, and that his ethnic back ground is Assyrian but his nationality will be Persian. He comes from a small people, the Assyrians living in northern Iran, the lake Ermia area. The 4th Persian king (Asshur) will also set up the abomination of desolations in the Jewish temple in Jerusalem.
For those of you who do not understand the significance of the Abomination of desolation I will cover some references to explain.
Jesus’ disciples ask him?
Mark 13:4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?
(14) But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains.
Jesus is using Daniel 11:31 as a major sign of the end times. The placement of the abomination is in the sanctuary (where ought not) the sanctuary is on the temple mount in Jerusalem, and the people are to flee to the mountains. In Luke 21:20 Jesus also tells his disciples “And when ye see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. (21) Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains.”
Daniel also refers to the Abomination of desolations in 9:27. This account is about 70 weeks of years prescribed about the Jewish people. It is not my intent to dissect the first 69 weeks in this session (perhaps later), but only the 70th week. There will be a prince (of this world) not of God. And this prince will make, or confirm a covenant with Israel for one week (7 years) and at the half way point will break the covenant.
9:27 And he (the prince) shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst (half) of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he (the prince) shall make it desolate, even until the consummation (the end) and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
This half week, (3 1/2 yrs, 42 months, 1260 days, or time, times and a half of time) is seen in scripture many times for the end times. In Revelation chapter 12:6 a remnant of the Jewish people (seen as a woman, or more specifically as the woman who brought forth the Messiah that will reign over the earth with a Rod of Iron)
(6)And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
Then later in the same chapter verse 14,
(14) And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
time, is equal to one year,
times, is equal to two years.
And half of time is equal to half of year or six months.
in total it equals 3 1/2 years.
The connection of the abomination of desolation and ceasing of the sacrifice is important because they happen as one event. The sacrifice in the temple is stopped, making it possible for the Assyrian to set up the abomination in the temple.
Now let’s finish Daniel chapter 11,
I’ll pick it up at verse 36
(36) And the king (4th king, the Assyrian) shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
Asshur’s arrogance really becomes manifest, he is acting only according to his will, the charge or call of God is totally discarded, and he sets up himself to be worshipped in the temple of God in Jerusalem. He exalts himself above every god and will be allowed to do this until God accomplishes his work in his people (when I have done my perfect work in Zion, I will punish the stout heart of the king of Assyria). He also blasphemes God with his mouth speaking great thing against God.
This scripture is closely echoed in 2 Thessalonians chapter 2 verse 3&4
(3)Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall no come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition: (4) Who opposeth and exhalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
(37) Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
He has now forsaken his natural heritage as an Assyrian, and because he now rules the world, (which no other man in all of history has done) he sees himself above all other men and gods.
(38) but in his estate shall he honour the God of Forces: and a god his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
He acknowledges the help he receives from the God of Forces, fortresses, civilization, the World, Lucifer, Satan. He does not bow to worship, but does bring an offering to him. Satan is a the god that his father’s refused to serve, they left Lucifer when they accepted Christianity in the first century, they turned from the old Assyrian god called Asshur. His symbol clear shows him to be the angel of the sun. (show his slide) the ring leader of the fallen angels.
(39) Thus shall he (Asshur) do in the most strong holds with the strange god, whom he shall acknowledge and increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
remember, Asshur had gone to the strong hold because of fear. He had gone to seek and receive help from the God of this world. Lucifer does not know the hearts of men, and the advisor with the knife (sword) still killed him, only God knows the heart.
The next 5 verses are a synopsis of military battles which the Assyrian will be involved in during the last seven years of the age, Daniels 70th week.
I first heard this sequence explained by Doctor Robert Hooley back in the early 70’s. and except for some minor differences I still see it the same today.
I believe that this sequence starts at a time when the Assyrian has acknowledged or confirmed a defense covenant with Israel at the end of the age.
(40) And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him (Asshur);
We have already seen what happens between Egypt and the vile king. Egypt is destroyed and pillaged by Asshur. (campaign 1)
(40) continues, and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships: (campaign 2)
This is an attack into Israel from Russia, which flies in the face of Asshur, Israel’s defender. Russia is defeated by the Lord on the mountains of northern Israel see Ezekiel 38: for the details.
(40) continues, and he (Asshur) shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over. (campaign 3)
In response to Russia’s defeat Asshur is able to move (overflow and pass over in the areas which Russia (the bear) no longer has dominion.
(41) and he (Asshur) shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon. (campaign 4) middle
All of the Middle East except portions of Jordan are captured by Asshur. The area’s not included are the areas that Israelis from Judea are told to flee to.
(44) But tidings (news) out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he (the Assyrian) shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly make away many. (campaign 5 and 6).
Tiding from the east, relates to the kings of the east coming across the Euphrates River, as seen in Revelations 9:13 &14, and 16:14 &16.
Tiding out of the north is campaign 6, Russia was destroyed in campaign 2. This news comes from his northern power base (the nations that have forsaken the Holy covenant) Daniel 7:20 tells us that 3 of the ten horns will be plucked up by the roots, we will study Daniel 7 in latter sessions to fill in our understanding.
(45) And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain (Zion): yet shall he come to his end, and none shall help him. (campaign 7)
The Assyrian dies (come to his end) in Jerusalem, after having subdued the whole world. (except for the place of refuge in edom).
These descriptions are brief because much of the scripture about them is yet to be covered.

..Stop here..
I need to close this session at this point, but next session I want to cover Daniel chapter 7 and 8. The little horn which they describe.
Thank you.
