Session 2 Isaiah Chapter 13 The Burden of Babylon

The Prophecy Project:
Session 2
WELCOME… This is session number TWO of the prophecy project. Last session I started laying a foundation for understanding the times in which we live. I spoke about 3 books that I’ve written, and began to explain about my first book which is on the “Daughter of Babylon”. I explained how the old testament Jewish prophets spoke of an end time nation of Babylon, and that their prophecies were not meant for ancient Babylon, the Babylon of Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar, but rather a nation of Babylon which would exist at the end of the world, a time called the day of the Lord.
Now… If you have not watched session 1, of the prophecy project, I highly recommend that you do so, before watching this session. Each session will flow and build on the last… and I will make references to earlier sessions.. and you will want to understand what is being said.
I ended the last session by giving a list of descriptions of the Babylon of the end times, it was only a few of the many given in scripture… But now I want to study the prophecies of Isaiah concerning Babylon, we will start with chapter 13.
ISAIAH 13:1 The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see. (2) Lift ye up a banner (advertise) upon the high mountain, exalt the voice (speak loudly) unto them, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.(that the message will get to the important people).
(3) I (God) have commanded my sanctified ones (those who have been cleansed and made holy by God), I have also called my mighty ones (ghib-bore) for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness. (mighty Angels, exalting God around his throne).
(4) The noise of the multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the Lord of host mustereth the host of the battle.
(5) They (the host) come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the Lord and the weapons of his indignation (anger and wrath), to destroy the whole land (Babylon).
Rev.19:11-15:
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse: and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. (12) His eyes were a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns: and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. (13) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called the Word of God. (14) And the armies which were in heaven followed him on white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he should rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Rev.16:14-16: Is also connected to Isaiah 13 and the battle.
For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. (15) behold I come as a thief, blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. (16) and he (God) gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon. A location in northern Israel, Ar = mountains or hills Mageddon = Megiddo. Back to Isa.
13:6
(6) Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. (7) Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt: (8) And they shall be afraid: pangs of sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth : they shall be amazed one at the other; their faces shall be as flames. (9) Behold the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it , (10) For the stars of heaven and the constellation thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. (11) And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. (12) I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the gold wedge of Ophir. (13) Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall be moved out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.

the signs in the heavens seen here in Isaiah 13 are also found in scripture in relationship to the end of the world and the judgment of the nations.
Luke 21:10 Then said he (Jesus) unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: (11) And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sites and great signs shall there be from heaven. (25) and there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
In Joel chapter 2 we are told about a battle that happens during “the day of the Lord” when a great people will come to Israel to fight.
Joel 2:10 The earth shall quake before them; the heavens shall tremble: the sun and the moon shall be dark, and the stars shall withdraw their shining: (11) and the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide (survive) it?
back to Isaiah
13:14 And it (Babylon) shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land. (15) Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. (16) Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished. (17) Behold, I will stir up the Medes (Iranians) against them, which shall not regard silver, and as for gold, they shall not delight in it. (18) Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children. (19) And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency , shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. (burned with fire). (20) It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation:….
NOTE: The construction or layout of this chapter can seem to be confusing. First we see that God himself and his army will judge or destroy Babylon and also will battle with the nations of the world. Then in verses 17-18 indicates that God will cause the Medes to attack Babylon, he stirs them up, gets them mad at Babylon….why stir up the Iranians if God’s army is here to deal with Babylon, and wouldn’t the Iranians be under judgment, included in God’s judgment of the nations?
I think the best way to understand this that it is a “fight bill” when a boxing match is billed it would have the main event at the top of the bill… this champion will defend his title against the contender with descriptions of both fighters…. lower in the bill would be other fights of lesser importance…secondary.
But when you attend the event take your chair and watch for the fight, you find the fights of lesser importance will be fought first as a prelude to the main event. The Iranian attack is billed as lesser than the day of the Lord, but will happen before it. and is actually the start or beginning Babylon’s demise not it’s end.
This is confirmed in the book of Revelation chapters 17,18 and 19. where we see the same sequence.
Rev.17:4 and 5 identifies a woman as Babylon the Great.
4. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication (5) And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH….(16) the ten horns shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
Rev. 18:2 Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen,… (16) Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls! (17) for in one hour so great riches is come to nought. And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships and sailors, and as many as trade by sea, stood afar off. (18) And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, what city is like unto this great city!
Rev. 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: (2) For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. (7) …and his (the Lamb) wife hath made herself ready. (8) And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints…(14) And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword , that he should smite the nations.
This is the proper sequence for the destruction of Babylon. An attack by the 10 kings, and afterwards God’s army.
I want to close this session at this point by letting you know that in future session I will cover America’s connection to these scriptures, the corner stones, and her symbols.
Thank you.
