Session 5 Revelation Chapter 17 Mega Babylon

The Prophecy Project:
Session 5
WELCOME… To session number FIVE of the prophecy project. Last session I covered Isaiah chapter 47 the LADY OF KINGDOMS. We looked at how the Daughter of Babylon is called the “Lady of Kingdoms” and is de-throned. She is told sit in the dust, sit on the ground, there is no throne. We are told that she was once “tender and delicate” tender” = soft, gentle, precious, “delicate” = pleasing and pleasant. The Lady losses her queenly (royal) attire, to the point that her sins are uncovered “her nakedness shall be seen”.
She is seen as being a nation which was full the occult, her wisdom and knowledge has perverted her from being special. She is also judged because of her treatment of Israel. God asked the Daughter of Babylon to support Israel and take care of her, but at some point she fails. She and her occult counselors will be destroyed by fire.
While I am trying to be thorough in this study, the serious student of prophecy needs to read the texts for themselves. And If you have not watched the earlier sessions of the prophecy project, I highly recommend that you do so, before watching this session. Each session will flow and build on the last… and I will make references to earlier sessions.. and you will want to understand.
This session will cover Rev. 17, But before I start I want cover briefly Revelation chapter 14, it is the first reference to Babylon in Revelations. Verse 7, fear God and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and the earth, and every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people. (8) And there followed another angel, saying Babylon is fallen is fallen.
This prophecy was given around 90 ad 500 years after the fall of historic old Babylon. This account sets Babylon’s fall to the time of God’s judgment. This agrees with Isaiah 13 and Jeremiah.
Now let move on.
Now that we understand that Babylon is a “WOMAN” called the “Lady of Kingdoms”, the “Daughter of Babylon”. I want to go to Revelations chapter 17. This chapter has several major components which gives us tremendous insights into the old Testament prophecies about the end-times. The Lamb, the King of Kings, the Beast, the Whore, the seven kings, the ten kings.
I am going to read every verse in chapter 17, but only expound on the Babylon portions. I will cover all of the scriptures in detail in other sessions, so if I don’t cover something you really want to hear, please be patient, I will cover it later. An example will be the term “MYSTERY” as found in verse 5. I will also make some old testament connections you may have never heard.
17:1 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: (2) With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
In previous chapters of Revelation there were seven vials (vessels) each containing events to come to pass upon the earth, during the time of God’s wrath. Each vial was opened and poured out by an individual angel.
It is one of the angels of the seven vials that comes to John and tells John to come with him, I have something to “SHEW YOU”, The judgment of the great whore. Shew, means you will see it. the Greek word: “dike-noo-o” deiknuo, “to expose to the eyes”. It is important for us to understand what the angels intent is, in order for us to better understand subsequent verses.
The Term “sitteth upon many waters” is consistent with the description from Jeremiah 51:13 “O Thou that dwellest upon many waters”, which was referring to the nation of the Daughter of Babylon. The Greek word for sitteth means “to dwell”. both Revelation 17 & Jeremiah say exactly the same thing.
The statement “great whore” is significant, “great” comes from the Greek word meaning “MEGA” and “Whore” which comes from “Porne'”, to defile oneself.
Remember that Babylon perverts herself from something precious to Porne’.
(3) So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.
In this spiritual vision the woman is placed or dwelling above the beast, she truly is MEGA.
You can go to Rev. 12:3 for another reference to the red beast.
(4)And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:
This woman is dressed in royal garb. the purple and scarlet and her wealth is amazing and she is or has a golden cup. and yet she has filled her cup with abominations and sin. Abominations are actions and things that God abhors. For all this opulence she is filthy.
(5) and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOT AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
This scripture identifies the woman as “Babylon” and more specifically “Mega Babylon” she is seen as the “mother whore” and abomination.
(6) And I saw the woman (Babylon) drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I (John) wondered with great admiration.
At this point in time the woman Babylon has completely turned from God, her perversion is complete. She has been and now is persecuting the saints of God and martyring the faithful.

despite the obvious anti-Christ spirit presiding over Babylon, John is greatly impressed by what he sees. She is quite a sight to behold, I don’t think that he had ever seen anything like it. Remember this a the greatest nation to exist in the last days. He may well have been viewing the technology and structures of our day.
(7) And the angel said unto me (John), Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.
It appears that the angel is surprised at Johns reaction and decides to fill him in on what it is that he admired. In verses 8-13 the angel explains about the beast, the horns, and kings.
This is a change or insertion in the original intent of the angel. he has stopped showing the judgment and started TELLING John about the beast etc. Lets read 8-13
(8) The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition(Hell): and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. (9) And here is the mind which hath wisdom. the seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. (10) And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. (11) And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. (12) And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. (13) These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. (14) These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. We saw this army in Isaiah 13, Joel 2, and Rev 19.
This is the battle that we earlier covered in Isaiah and Jeremiah, associated with the destruction of End-Time Babylon, The Daughter of Babylon.
(15) And he (the angel) saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
verse 15 now directly refers to the whore (Babylon the great). The waters are peoples (the tribes) nations (ethnos) ethnic tribes gentiles, tongues (different languages). These are the Mingled Peoples of Jeremiah.
(16) And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.
The ten horns are an assembly of 10 kingdoms which will hate the Whore, Babylon the great. These kings have not received a kingdom, but have received authority as kings for a short time with the beast. That authority is to use their assets (military assets) to destroy Babylon. They will burn her with fire. remember that Jeremiah 50:9 referred to raising up an assembly of great nations.
This is the repeated theme throughout scripture concerning the destruction of Babylon, The Lady of kingdoms.
(17) For God hath put it in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom (authority) unto the beast, until the words of God be fulfilled.
What an amazing truth is seen here. These kings hate God, they hate everything about God, everything they do is to defeat God, they are planning for a war with the Lamb of God. They have determined that they have more strength and power by joining in consensus with the beast, and that destroying the Lady of kingdoms will promote their cause. But they don’t realize that they are actually doing exactly what God what’s them to do. It says that God speaks directly into their hearts to persuade them to make his choice, his will, his plan. in Rev 19 we see rejoicing in heaven when the whore is destroyed and God is given the credit, the glory.
(18) And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
John is told that the woman that he was shown in verse 3 is that great city which reigns over the nations. The woman that he saw was the whore of the last-days, with all of her sin and abominations, that woman is the city that reigns over the kings, in the day of the fulfillment of the prophecy. This is one of the identifying factors for Babylon the great. She will be the super-power in the world at the end of the age. This consistent with Jeremiah 50:23 the hammer of the whole earth.
There is no backward reference in this scripture, only the fulfillment of it…” in the day of it’s fulfillment”.
The reference to Babylon as a city is sometimes confusing if you only study the chapter as a stand alone account. The fact that Babylon the great reigns over the kings of the earth in the last days, shows that no one city could have the assets to rule the kings. Only Babylon as a nation could hold the position that scripture puts her in, but Babylon the great will have a capitol city which will be the center of power and a point of destruction. Remember that we learned that the fire will come upon Babylon and the neighbor cities Jere. 50:40. and that the entire land is destroyed to the point of desolation.
The whore of Babylon the great, is the “Daughter of Babylon” and she is the hindermost of the nations “last in time:!
I need to close this session at this point, but we will go directly to revelation 18 in the session. remember I will show the amazing connections to America in coming sessions, symbols, cornerstones, and her founders.
Thank you.
