Session 6 Revelation Chapter 18 Babylon’s Judgement

The Prophecy Project:
Session 6
WELCOME… To session number SIX of the prophecy project. Last session I covered Revelation chapter 17 the judgment of the great whore. We looked at how the whores name is “Babylon the great” Mega Babylon! and how this prophecy was given 500 years after old Babylon had fallen. She is seen as a woman presiding or ruling over the kings of the earth. She clothed in royal or queenly attire.
A great angel starts to show John her judgment, but stops and tells John about the beast and the whore and the 10 kings, he explains the relationships and how the kings hate the whore and assists in her destruction, she will be destroyed by fire. However, chapter 17 ends before John sees Babylon’s judgment, which was the intent of the angel, his job was to show John the judgment. He did not do that in chapter 17,
There is a large section of scripture in chapter 17 which I read but, did not comment on. These scriptures are to be covered in other later sessions.
While I am trying to be thorough in this study, the serious student of prophecy needs to read the texts for themselves. And If you have not watched the earlier sessions of the prophecy project, I highly recommend that you do so, before watching this session. Each session will flow and build on the last… and I will make references to earlier sessions.. and you will want to understand.
This session will continue our study into Rev. chapter 18,
(1) And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
The reference to “these things” is to the descriptions of the angel in rev. 17. and John is now seeing things.
(2) And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
Not only is Babylon fallen… and it is a big deal! The angel cries with a loud voice. But her perversion is also manifest… she has become unclean, she has acquired unclean spirits (foul) devils (demons) and the unclean birds. They all live with her, they are at home with her, she’s unclean.
(3) For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
The influence of her sin is affecting all the nations, and at the highest levels even the kings or leaders. this a negative effect, not good. We also see that the merchants of the earth are getting rich by trading with her. They can ignore the sin of Babylon so long as they are making money.
(4) And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
This scripture has caused a lot of controversy in some circles. There are those that believe that: those who consider themselves to be God’s people should pack up and leave Babylon, literally find a new nation to emigrate to. I acknowledge that the God of Israel is calling his children home to their land. He says he will bring them from every direction, back to Israel. this call of God to his people is not specific to Babylon, but general to all the nations of the Diaspora. The choice of every Jew is a personal decision as to go, or when to go, or not to go, this is between them and their God.

Packing up and leaving any location does not deliver someone from sin. You can sin, or partake of sin anywhere in the world. For the Christian person who has been grafted into God’s family through their acceptance of the Jewish messiah, they understand that they live in the world but are not of the world.
The judgment of Babylon is the Wrath of God, every prophet that we’ve read in this study has said this… How you live.. and your relationship to God will determine whether you are in danger of God’s wrath or not.
It clearly says: be not partakers of her sins. and you won’t receive of her plagues. I believe this what it means to come out of Babylon.
(5)For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. (6) Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled to her double.
This is the principle of recompense which we saw in Jeremiah 50 & 51, only here we see it as doubled! Why? I think that her sins are excessive.
In Sodom and Gomorrah God came down to see if their sin was really as bad as he had heard, when he knew (confirmed) that it was…then judgment came. But, in Babylon’s case he does not need to come down, the sins are so great they reached heaven. The cup that she hath filled, the golden cup is totally full.
(7) How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart , I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
Come down and sit in the dust there is no throne! This is precisely what Isaiah 47 says, even including the pride, she glorifies herself.
(8) Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her.
again this matches Isaiah 47:9 & 11 perfectly… quick judgment by fire in one day.
(9) And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning. (10) Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.
It is certain at this point that John is seeing the judgment of the whore, like the angel said he would. the nations are watching her burn, they see her smoke.
(11) And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more.
At first glance it seems touching that the merchants are weeping for Babylon. But, they actually only care about the loss of the market. It seems that Babylon has been buying most of the world’s goods, and they have just realized that the world’s economy is going tank. Babylon is the most important economic power in the world.
(12) The merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stones, and of pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet, and all thyine wood, and all manner vessels of ivory, and all manner vessels of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble, (13) And cinnamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and beasts, and sheep, and horses, and chariots, and slaves, and souls of men. (14) And the fruits that thy soul lusted after are departed from thee, and all things which were dainty and goodly are departed from thee, and thou shalt find them no more at all.
The good life is gone, every conceivable luxury will be gone, no wonder the merchants are in grief.
(15) The merchants of these things, which were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, (16) And saying, Alas, alas, that great city, that was clothed in fine linen, and purple, and scarlet, and decked with gold, and precious stones, and pearls.
The merchants are standing far back from Babylon because they are in fear they are shaken, the violence of the event has shaken them. the incredible pain and suffering (torment) has never been seen at this level before. it will come quickly in one day!
we see also by her royal attire that this Babylon is indeed the great whore of Babylon the great, fine linen, purple and scarlet, gold, precious stones, and pearls.
(17) For in one hour so great riches is come to nought, And every shipmaster, and all the company in ships, and sailors, and as many as trade by the sea, stood afar off, (18) And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! (19) And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.
All the riches and wealth of Babylon could not stop her destruction nor can it bring her back, she has come to nought (nothing). The merchant sailors of the world are not just sorry to see Babylon go, But they are weeping and wailing, they are out of control. It’s clear that the decision to burn Babylon was made for political and spiritual reasons, not economic. (the ten kings, assembly of nations hated her) All the company in ships could be made rich through trade with the great whore.
(20) Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her.
Not everyone is weeping for Babylon, heaven and God’s servants are rejoicing over the justice of her judgment.
(21) And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all. (22) And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; (23) And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants (Babylon) were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
It is completely gone, the bright arrows have hit their mark, Babylon and the neighboring cities and the whole land of Babylon is dead.
(24) And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and all that were slain upon the earth.
This last scripture in chapter 18 ties all that has been said , back to the Daughter of Babylon in Jeremiah 51:49 ..at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the earth.
Revelation 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: (2) For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants at her hand. (3) and again they said, Alleluia. And her smoke rose up for ever and ever.
The saints in heaven are the wife of the Lamb and prepare to come back to earth to deal with the rest of the nations, we read this in an earlier session.
I want to close this session at this point, but we will go to Ezekiel 17 in the next session and learn the great riddle (mystery).
Thank you.
