Session 4 Isaiah Chapter 47 The Lady of Kingdoms

The Prophecy Project:
Session 4
WELCOME… To session number FOUR of the prophecy project. Last session I covered Jeremiah chapters 50 &51 the sound of battle in the land (Babylon). We looked at how the land of Babylon’s destruction is tied to an assembly of nations from the north, in fact we found that there are many nations which will attack Babylon, raised up from around the world. some nations are even named, although by their ancient names. Nations such as Turkey, Iran and Russia. We also saw how Babylon of the end times is given the title, “The Daughter of Babylon”.
Much of the information describing Babylon is the same as found in Isaiah 13 and portions of Revelations 17 & 18. except it is in much more detail. The details of Babylon’s demise seem to be over-kill. It’s fair to ask why? I certainly have. But, when you realize how dangerous our position is, and what the consequences are, it’s only reasonable that it be so graphic and to the point that we cannot just ignore what is being said. That ignoring the warnings can bring us into peril and being caught unprepared.
While I am trying to be thorough in this study, the serious student of prophecy needs to read the texts for himself. And If you have not watched the earlier sessions of the prophecy project, I highly recommend that you do so, before watching this session. Each session will flow and build on the last… and I will make references to earlier sessions.. and you will want to understand.
Now that we understand that Babylon is called the “Daughter of Babylon”. I want to go back into Isaiah and look at chapter 47. I call this chapter “The lady of kingdoms”.
(1) Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.
So much information given in just one verse! This is addressed to the daughter of Babylon, not historic Babylon, but rather the hindermost of the nations.
She has a pride problem, She thinks she should be on the throne. But God says she should sit in the dust! sit on the ground.
The throne (her throne) is no more. She has been called tender and delicate. Tender means: SOFT, GENTLE, PRECIOUS. and delicate means: PLEASING & PLEASANT. It’s clear that she was once a very special nation. She was once a queen on her throne.
Daughter of the Chaldeans, this a term that has been coming up in relation to Babylon, in the scriptures we have already looked at and I haven’t yet spoke to it. Historically the Chaldeans were a people who lived in southern, or south of Babylon. Over time they became very adept in the old Babylonian religion and magic systems associated it. The term Chaldean became synonymous with “one who practices the occult arts” This side of Babylon will be covered in a later session. For now it suffices us to see Chaldeans as a land full of occult practioners.
(2) Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. (3) Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man.
She goes from Queen to a base laborer she’s told to grind meal. She is also told to uncover her head, which would place her at the bottom of the social ladder. Bare the leg, uncover the Thigh, no more royal attire for the daughter of Babylon.
The nations will see her naked, her sins will be revealed, no longer concealed. We seldom present our short comings to those around us, but rather we cover them up and hope that they never come to light. Babylon’s sins not only will be exposed, but also will be judged by God, “I will take vengeance” He does not judge after the ways of man, or in the courts of the world, but spiritually as God, “I will not meat thee as a man”
(4) As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, The Holy one of Israel.
On first glance this statement seems to be out of place in a Babylon text. But when seen in the light of “I will not meet thee as a man”. We see that there is be no question as to God’s name, and that he supports Israel. He is also Holy, Kadosh. Do not make the mistake of calling him by any other name.
(5) Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called the lady of kingdoms.
“sit thou silent” means to down and be quiet and don’t try to justify yourself.
She is told to get thee into darkness, We see that she has been in the light but must now reside in darkness. from light to darkness, she is fallen or perverted.
And we see she was called the lady of kingdoms. She is not a religion or religious system, she is a KINGDOM, and not just a kingdom but the “lady” of kingdoms, this speaks to her having the high position among the nations.
(6) I was wroth with my people, I have polluted mine inheritance, and given them into thine hand: thou didst shew them no mercy; upon the ancient hast thou heavily laid thy yoke.
There is clearly a link between Babylon and Israel, and Babylon will let Israel down, and make decisions that will cause Israel heartaches. This connection will become clearer in later sessions.
(7) And thou saidst, I will be a lady for ever: so that thou didst not lay these things to heart, neither didst remember the latter end of it.
Babylon felt that her position as a lady was granted, and would never end. She did not take the warning to heart and forgot what God has said.
(8) Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:
Babylon has been very wealthy and is use to having the good things of life “the pleasures” and she has said in heart it’s never going to change, I’m at the top of the nations and there is no other equal to me, I will win every battle and never suffer defeat.
(9) But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the abundance of thine enchantments.
These judgments come because Babylon was involved in the occult arts of sorceries and enchantment. Not in a small way but in multitudes and great abundance.
(10) For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, none seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.
None seeth me, that’s the typical attitude that men have when they decide to sin, no one is around, no see’s me, I’ll get away with it. But the truth is that everything is seen and recorded. Babylon has turned from God and trusted in her own wisdom and knowledge, and it has perverted her. Wisdom and knowledge in the last days is equal to technology and how to apply it, and with time you will begin to believe that you are the reason you are successful. Pride certainly follows “none else beside me”.
(11) Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.
Babylon will become a desolation and all the leaders and counselors and all the smart people inside Babylon won’t know how to deal with it, or even know where it came from, she will be blindsided.
(12) Stand now in thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast laboured from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. (13) Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee.
It’s clear that the occult practitioners will not be up to the task, of protecting Babylon from her sin, no matter how many you have or how varied they are.
(14) Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it. (15) Thus shall they be unto thee with whom thou hast laboured, even thy merchants, from thy youth: they shall wander every one to his quarter; none shall save thee.
The judgment of the occult is seen, they can’t save themselves from the desolation let alone Babylon. The destruction from fire comes to Babylon it will have a complete effect, none shall escape it. Note: the term and reference to “thy merchants” and how they flee, will be a definitive phrase in the coming scriptures.
Spiritual names for places and nations
I have stated in previous sessions how I feel that America will fit the descriptions of the Daughter of Babylon. But is it legitimate to transfer one nations name to another nation?
The descriptions of end time Babylon does not fit the historic nation of Babylon, today’s Iraq, but we will see that the geographical description of end time Babylon does not fit Iraq either. This is something that cannot be reconciled, you cannot move or change Iraq to match scripture. But, if the name Babylon is a spiritual name for the nation, then the real Daughter of Babylon would have the proper geographic location.
there is a scriptural precedence for this view. Rev. 11:3-11
(3) And I will give power un to my two witnesses, and they shall prophecy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth…(6) These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy:….(7) And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them. (8) And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
Egypt not a city, a country. Sodom, destroyed before revelations was written. city of the Lord’s crucifixion Jerusalem.
I want to close this session at this point by letting you know that in future sessions I will cover America’s connection to these scriptures, the corner stones, and her symbols.
Thank you.
