The Prophecy Project:
Session 3
WELCOME… To session number Three of the prophecy project. Last session I covered Isaiah chapter 13 the BURDEN of Babylon. We looked at how Babylon’s destruction is tied to the judgment of the nations at the end of the age, and is connected to Armageddon. We saw how devastating the battle will be, and that all of this is in the day of God’s wrath. The events described in the prophecies are very severe and have certainly never taken place in history.
Isaiah was not the only old testament Jewish prophet to speak about the demise of a nation called Babylon. Jeremiah, who is called the weeping prophet, spoke two entire chapters, consisting of 110 verses dedicated to the demise of the nation of Babylon. Because there are so many verses I will not try to read every one, but will cover them by topic instead.
While I am trying to be thorough in this study, the serious student of prophecy needs to read the texts for himself. And If you have not watched the earlier sessions of the prophecy project, I highly recommend that you do so, before watching this session. Each session will flow and build on the last… and I will make references to earlier sessions.. and you will want to understand.

I will start with Jeremiah 50:1 & 22 and 51:43
(1) The word that the LORD spake against Babylon and against the Land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the Prophet.
(22) The sound of battle is in the land (Babylon), and of great destruction.
51:43 Her cities are a desolation…
Jeremiah’s Babylon is not just the city of Babylon but the nation, her cities
THE DAUGHTER of BABYLON
50:42 …like a man to the battle, against thee, O Daughter of Babylon.
51:33 For thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; the Daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floor,
50:12 Your mother shall be sore confounded; she that bear you shall be ashamed: behold the hindermost of the nations shall be a wilderness, a dry land and a desert.
the daughter is the offspring of old Babylon, she is the hindermost of the nations “LAST IN TIME”.
THE ATTACKING NATIONS
50:3 For out of the north there cometh up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they shall remove, they shall depart, man and beast.
50:9 For, lo, I (God) will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the north country: and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken:
50:41 Behold a people shall come from the north, and a great nation, and (also) many kings shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
51:48 For the spoilers shall come upon her from the north, saith the Lord.
51:27-28 Set up a standard in the land (Babylon) blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashchenaz:… (28)Prepare against her the kings of the Medes…
This list is much more complete than what Isaiah stated, we see modern Turkey, (Ararat) Iran (minni)(Tehran) and Russia (Ashchenaz), we also see kings from around the world. This Battle is huge and Babylon is to be destroyed by a host of enemies. This battle is well coordinated and planned, (set in array) not spontaneous. Babylon has offended a great number of nations.
MILITARY BABYLON
50:23 How is (Babylon) the hammer of the whole earth cut asunder and broken! How is Babylon become a desolation among the nation!
The Babylon of the end-times will be the greatest (single) military power on the earth. Everyone will be amazed at her demise and the desolation. It is now clear why it requires so many great nations, an assembly of nations to defeat her.
51:12 Set up a standard upon the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set up the watchmen, prepare the ambushes.
Ambushes are military defensive tactics for the borders of the nation.
51:53 Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall spoilers come unto her, saith the Lord.
SODOM and GOMORRAH
50:40 As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour cities thereof, saith the Lord; so shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein.
51:58 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; the broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly broken, and her high gates shall be burned with fire;
Isaiah and Jeremiah’s account agree.

MINGLED PEOPLES:
50: 37 A sword is upon their houses, and upon their chariots, and upon all the mingled people that are in the midst of her;
Hebrew word “ereb” people ” to be woven together” in one nation. but will run back to their old homelands when the armies come.
REMOVE OUT OF BABYLON
50:8 remove out of Babylon..
50:16 for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn every one to his own people , and they shall flee every one to his own land.
51:6 Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and deliver every man his soul: be not cut off in her iniquity; for this the time of the LORD’s vengeance; he will render her a recompence.
VENGEANCE AND RECOMPENCE
50:15 …for it is the vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance upon her; as she hath done, do to her.
50:28,29 …declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance of his temple. (29) Recompence her according to her work; according to all that she hath done, do unto her: for she hath been proud against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.
51:11 …for his (God’s) device is against Babylon, to destroy it; because it is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance of his temple.
ISRAEL, GOD”S BATTLE AXE
51:20 Thou (Israel) art my battle axe and weapons of war: for with thee will I break in pieces the nations, and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;
Israel will be a great or powerful military nation in that time. God will use Israel to destroy nations.
Israel of the end-times (daughter of Zion) will exist at the same time as end time Babylon The Daughter of Zion was established in 1948 and has become powerful military force today.
So who is the hammer of the whole earth, today?
I believe that Israel today has a call to fight with certain nations and to be victorious. nations like Syria , Lebanon and Iran. Today’s Israelis want nothing more that to live in peace with her neighbors. but her enemies are gathering on every side and are intent on driving Israel into the sea.
BABYLON A GOLDEN CUP
51:7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the Lord’s hand…
I have separated the first part of 51:7 out so that we can see what Babylon WAS at one point in time.
She “hath been” but is not now, a golden cup. In God’s temple he has vessels for his use and to used in the temple. Some vessels of brass, silver and the most valuable are of Gold. Babylon is seen “in God’s hand” which means at some point in time she was controlled or yielding to God’s ways. As the greatest of all the nations at that time she would have been used by God to bless the nations, the whole earth.
But, the second part of verse 7 shows that she changed, turned from God and perverted her ways.
“That made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad (become crazed).”
Revelation chapter 18 echoes this truth.
18:2,3 ..Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is BECOME the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird. (3) For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication…
THE HEALING OF BABYLON
51: 8-9 Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: howl for her; take balm for her pain, if so she may be healed. We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed; forsake her, and let us go every one to his own country: for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.
What a tragedy! God would have healed Babylon but she refused. and now all God can do is tell everyone to leave and go home.
